Of Boys and Men
This week I had to go move things out of our current office. I hate moving but I it had to be done so I did what any dad would do having big and strong 16 and 18-year-old boys in the house. I brought them along.
At the end of the day I realized that much of the intentional training had paid off. It wasn’t just that I got free labor that day that excited me. It was that these two boys were well equipped. They could have done the whole job with out me. They hooked up the trailer, carried out the furniture, removed doors, disconnected appliances, strapped things down properly, and reconnected them at the new location by doing some minor plumbing. They both had multi purpose tools on them that came in very handy and they knew how to use them properly. They were awesome!
I was so proud of them. They were the best helpers I could have found anywhere at any age. They were well trained in thinking through each situation and applying the necessary skills and tools to solve each problem correctly. The things on my list of intentional teaching items were fully on display. They had been great students and now were becoming great teachers to the others around them. What a joy it was, as their dad, to watch my boys being men. Thank you Lord for that moment.
